- Jung made no judgement about the objective nature of UFOs. What he saw
- was they presented an opportunity to project a new mythology. I first
- read Jung on UFOs in the 1970s. What I have learned since is how right he
- was about so many things. He urged the U.S. Air Force to stop their
- policy of secreacy in regard to UFOs because he knew that rather than
- prevent panic, which was the rationale for secreacy in the 1950s, they
- would in fact spawn it. They have. Or should I say the "cult of
- secreacy" has. UFO investigator John Ford is charged with conspiracy to
- commit murder of local officials who he believed were covering up a UFO
- crash. What else does Ford believe that would lead him into such rash
- actions? If we had policies of openeness and trust between the public,
- the scientific community, and the government, the obviously delicate
- balance of John Ford's mind may not have been tipped toward murder.
- We all ought to keep reading and rereading Jung. Whilel he was not a
- prophet, he had a deeper insight into the human mind that just about
- anyone. By rereading him we might better understand what is happening in
- our time, the 1990s.
